PLENTY OF TREATS IN STORE WITH RANELAGH ARTS FESTIVAL 2006
September 2006
Ken Doherty, World Champion snooker player, will officially open Ranelagh
Arts Festival 2006 at an event in McSorley’s pub, Ranelagh on
Tuesday, 26 September.
Ken is one of Ranelagh’s best-loved sons and says he became involved in the community-based Arts Festival because he wanted to give something back to the area in which he grew up and lives to this day.
“This is my first time getting really involved in the Festival,” he says. “And I’m delighted to be involved… I’m looking forward to loads of the acts that are playing during the Festival. I’ll certainly be attending as many events as I can!”
According to Terry Connaughton, Artistic Director of Ranelagh Arts Festival, this year’s line-up promises something to suit all ages and tastes. “We have an unbelievable programme for 2006,” says Terry. “Our biggest highlight is the Greenbeat night taking place on Saturday, 30 September. For anybody who loves rock ‘n’ roll – and for those of us who cherish memories of the Beat Club scene in 1960s Dublin – this is a must-attend event. Other highlights include a Mozart evening in Sandford Church, an Open Day and Battle of the Bands in Ranelagh Gardens, the Cinemobile in Beechwood Park and the staging of Flann O’Brien’s hilarious play Thirst in various Ranelagh pubs. Undoubtedly, this year’s Festival promises to be even better than 2005.”
